Winter Festival

You would be mistaken if you thought nothing much happened around Sydney and on the harbour in winter. Quite mistaken indeed! In fact winter is one of the best times of the year to enjoy a sail on the harbour with light winds, clear skies and stunning sunsets.

Winter is in full swing and the Winter Festivals have well and truly kicked off in Sydney with loads of great reasons to make a trip into the city. Darling Harbour is hosting the Sydney Winter Festival featuring a huge open-air ice skating rink that the whole family will enjoy. Don’t miss the Thredbo Snow Slide also down at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour. It’s a 25 metre long inflatable slide that is guaranteed to generate shrieks and giggles on the way down. You can feast on gourmet winter cuisine at the Winter Festival Village and if you are there on a Saturday there is a fireworks display at 8.30pm. Sailcorp picks up from Darling Harbour if you would like to combine a trip to the Sydney Winter Festival with a magical sail on the harbour.

Sydney’s Winter Garden in front of St Mary’s Cathedral is another winter wonderland that is running until 19th July. An open air ice skating rink, inflatable slide and mechanical snowbard ride offer an action-packed winter adventure for the whole family. But if you are after a more relaxed winter experience there is the Winter Garden Après Skate Lounge or Café Del Mar bar for a gluhwein or Belvedere vodka as well as loads of other drinks and gourmet food options. The outdoor rink will also host Olympic stakers, figure staking performances and music.

There are other winter hubs around Sydney including Bondi’s Winter Magic Festival boasting Australia’s only beach-side ice rink at the Bondi Pavilion. Ice staking at Sydney’s most iconic beach is an opportunity not to be missed! There is also Bondi Feast which is a pop-up winter festival of comedy, music, theatre, storytelling, visual arts and of course mugs of mulled cider are on offer.

So much winter fun to choose from. But don’t forget a sail on Sydney Harbour during this time of year can be pretty spectacular as well. From a sunset cruise to an island hopper, we can create a fun-filled day on the water and could be persuaded to throw in a glass of mulled wine!
