The Marine Radio Licence Sydney course is a nationally recognised training program that teaches you how to correctly operate a VHF marine radio. This licence—known as the SROCP (Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency)—is issued by the Australian Maritime College (AMC) and is mandatory for anyone who wishes to legally operate a VHF radio in Australian waters.
Whether you’re boating recreationally or preparing for commercial marine qualifications, this one-day course provides the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to use marine communication equipment safely and effectively. It’s ideal for sailors, powerboaters, PWC operators, and crew members working in the tourism or transport industry.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to send and receive routine messages, communicate with other vessels, access weather forecasts, and handle emergency situations such as man overboard or distress calls. You’ll also be introduced to important communication protocols and procedures such as Digital Selective Calling (DSC), channel allocations, and phonetic alphabet use.
