Course Description

The Safety & Sea Survival Revalidation Course is designed to update and renew your existing Safety & Sea Survival (SSS) Certificate, ensuring your knowledge and skills remain current with Australian Sailing and World Sailing standards. Successful completion extends your certification for a further five years, keeping you compliant for offshore racing requirements and giving you continued confidence in your ability to respond effectively to emergencies at sea.

This course is streamlined for those who already hold a valid SSS certificate or one that has expired within the last two years. Unlike the full two-day program, the revalidation course is a shorter, practical refresher designed to reinforce the critical survival techniques that can fade without regular practice. It is the ideal way to maintain your qualifications without having to repeat the full syllabus.

Delivered entirely face-to-face, the program is highly interactive and focused on practical skills. You’ll participate in wet drills that include liferaft deployment, boarding and survival techniques, and the correct use of lifejackets and personal safety equipment. Additional modules cover fire safety and emergency precautions, hazard awareness, and the human factors involved in making sound decisions under pressure. The course also revisits lessons learned from real-world incidents, highlighting how preparation, teamwork, and effective use of equipment can make the difference in an emergency.

The face-to-face format ensures a dynamic, hands-on learning environment where every participant is actively engaged. By practising in realistic scenarios, you’ll reinforce your ability to remain calm, work effectively with your crew, and manage survival equipment when it matters most.

By the end of the course, you will have refreshed both your theoretical understanding and your practical competence, leaving you better prepared to respond swiftly and confidently in a crisis. On successful completion, you will receive a renewed Safety & Sea Survival Certificate, valid for five years and recognised by both Australian Sailing and World Sailing.

This course is recommended for :
  • Offshore racing sailors requiring compliance with Category 1 and 2 race regulations.
  • Cruising sailors who want to maintain a high standard of safety awareness and survival skills.
  • Any skipper or crew member committed to keeping their emergency preparedness sharp and up to date.

The Safety & Sea Survival Revalidation Course is the efficient, face-to-face way to maintain your certification and ensure you remain prepared for the challenges of the sea.
